  1. Regarding Steely Dan’s, “Countdown to Ecstasy,” what is your source for the release date of Friday, July 6, 1973? I’ve done quite a bit of research on this, going through old newspaper reviews, looking for old print ads, old Billboard charts, etc. and it does not seem to be a definitive release date. So where did you get the information that it was released on July 6, 1973. I appreciate your site and I thank you for your response in advance.

    • Jim,

I apologize for the delay in responding to your note about Steely Dan. Often my day job takes precedent over my passion.

Especially with the album data, some of the entries in my databases date to 10 or more years ago. I checked all of my current sources, including 45Cat, Discogs, AllMusic, MusicBrainz, and 4-5 others, and agree that Countdown To Ecstasy was released in July 1973. But I cannot pinpoint where I came up with the July 6, 1973 date.

I am going to leave that date for now and keep digging. If you find aomething, please let me know.

      Cheers,

      Dr.Rock
