  1. Love the blog, but whenever I look up the release dates you post on Wikipedia sometimes they are wrong. …This leads me to ask are they wrong or is the date you are posting incorrect? I have also noticed you’ve changed the release dates of the same albums in the different years you have posted the “albums released”. I’d love to learn more about your process and help in any way I can, your blog is an invaluable resource and I’m extremely thankful to have access to the information you post.

    • Michael:

You’re not the first that’s brought up this subject, and I bet you won’t be the last.

Wikipedia is not the end-all to information, and I would caution you from using that as a sole source for data, for any purpose. I use a number of sources for my several databases, including Wikipedia, but also 45Cat, MusicBrainz, AllMusic, Discogs, SongFacts, official artists web sites, record label sites, various encyclopedia-style reference works by individual authors, and so on. Not all agree at all times, so some amount of sleuthing is required.

Check out some of the footnotes for many track or album Wikipedia pages and you’ll see the depth of information available – often contradictory.

Stand by for a revamped web site with searchable databases coming at DrRock.com in the next few months.

      Cheers, Dr. Rock
